December 25, 2011 Vinalines Queen 22 dead The Vietnamese bulk carrier Vinalines Queen (31,247 GT), on the way from Morowali ( Indonesia ) to Ningde ( People's Republic of China ), sank in a severe winter storm in the Philippine Sea , northeast of Luzon . The ship, loaded with 54,000 tons of nickel ore , capsized in waves up to ten meters high and sank within a very short time. The storm initially made any rescue effort difficult. A lone survivor was only rescued from the freighter London Courage on December 30th . A total of 22 of 23 crew members were killed.

April 16, 2014 Sewol 290 dead The South Korean RoPax ferry Sewol (6,586 GT) overturned on the way from Incheon to Jeju within a short time near the island of Jindo , most likely as a result of overloading. December 28, 2014 Norman Atlantic 13 dead A fire broke out on the Italian ferry (186.5 m long, 26,904 GT) on the journey from Patras to Ancona at around 3 a.m. At that time, at least 499 people (443 passengers, 56 crew members and probably some stowaways) were on the ship. 427 people were rescued and at least eleven were killed. 17th June 2017 ACX Crystal / USS Fitzgerald 7 dead Collision of a container ship with a US Navy ship. The 220-meter-long container ship ACX Crystal, sailing under the Philippine flag, collided with the American destroyer USS Fitzgerald at around 1:30 am local time off the Japanese peninsula of Izu, south of Tokyo Bay . A rubber dinghy manned by migrants set off for Italy from the Libyan coast. The boat capsized in an unknown position at sea. The Italian Coast Guard and Navy were able to save 86 people. The International Organization for Migration (IOM) stated after questioning the passers-by that 150 people were on board the inflatable boat.

January 6, 2018 Collision of an oil tanker with a freighter 32 dead After the collision of the oil tanker Sanchi with a bulk carrier off the coast of eastern China, tens of thousands of tons of oil were burned or spilled into the sea. Of the 32 sailors, only three bodies were found, the remaining 29 men were also pronounced dead.

There were at least four children among the victims. Three people were able to reach the island. The behavior of the rescue workers was criticized.
2nd June 2018 Refugee boat ≈ 112 dead A converted fishing boat with 180 people on board sank in the Mediterranean off the Tunisian Kerkenna Islands . 68 people were rescued and the number of victims is estimated at 112.
3rd June 2018 Refugee boat 9 dead A boat with fourteen to fifteen people on board capsized in the Mediterranean Sea southwest of Demre . Nine migrants including six children drowned.
June 6, 2018 Refugee boat at least 46 dead In the Gulf of Aden , a refugee boat with at least 100 people on board capsized off the coast of Yemen. 37 men and nine women died and 16 people went missing. The boat was en route from Boosaaso ( Somalia ) to Yemen .
June 12, 2018 Refugee boat at least 12 dead Forty surviving refugees were rescued from a refugee boat by the USNS Trenton on June 12, 2018, 20 miles from Libya . Twelve bodies were counted.
19th June 2018 Refugee boat ≈ 95 dead On June 19, 2018, a wooden boat carrying around 100 people capsized off the Libyan coast. Five people were rescued by the Libyan coast guard and taken to a hospital in Tripoli. Some bodies were recovered or washed up on the bank.
19th June 2018 Refugee boat ≈ 70 dead On September 19, 2018, a rubber dinghy with around 130 people sank off the Libyan coast. Sixty people were rescued by local fishermen and brought to Dela 35 km west of Tripoli.
20th June 2018 Refugee boat ≈ 50 dead On September 20, 2018, the Libyan coast guard rescued refugees from Garabulli 64 km east of Tripoli and brought them to Tajoura. The survivors reported that over 50 inmates were killed.
June 29, 2018 Refugee boat at least 100 dead A refugee boat with around 123 people on board sank off the Libyan coast near Tajoura .

A tourist boat with 105 people on board capsized in high waves in the Indian Ocean off the Thai island of Phuket . Mostly Chinese tourists drowned.
18th July 2018 Refugee boat 30 dead A refugee boat with about 150 people on board sank 25 km off the coast of Cyprus near Yialousa . 30 dead were recovered.
29th July 2018 Refugee boat 6 dead A refugee boat with 16 people on board capsized 20 km from Ayvalik in Turkey . Six dead, including three babies, were recovered, nine people were rescued and one person is missing.
August 9, 2018 Refugee boat 9 dead A refugee boat with 13 people on board sank near the Turkish town of Kusadasi . Seven women and two children drowned and the Turkish coast guard was able to save four survivors.
1st September 2018 Refugee boat over 100 dead On September 1, 2018, a refugee boat with 165 adults and 20 children lost air and sank off Libya. The Libyan coast guard was able to rescue 276 people from this and a second boat. They were taken to a Libyan detention center.
20th September 2018 MV Nyerere 227 dead On September 20, 2018, the overloaded ferry MV Nyerere sank on Lake Victoria shortly before docking. 227 dead were recovered.
22nd September 2018 Refugee boat 1 child On September 22, 2018, a refugee boat with 39 people capsized off the Libyan province of Akkar . One child died and 38 people were saved.
25th September 2018 Refugee boat 1 dead On September 25, 2018, the Navy of Morocco shot at a refugee boat off the coast of M'diq-Fnideq. One student was killed and a second wounded person had to have his arm amputated.
1st October 2018 Refugee boat at least 34 dead On October 1, 2018, a refugee boat with 60 people capsized off the Moroccan coast. The refugees informed the Spanish coast guard and the latter informed the authorities in Morocco. The refugees had to wait 36 ​​hours for rescue workers to arrive.

A refugee boat sank off the Turkish coast in the province of Izmir. Eight people were recovered dead, 25 are missing.

A refugee boat with 15 people sank off the Turkish Dikili in the province of Izmir. Five dead were recovered and five people are missing.
20th December 2018 Refugee boats min. 25 dead / missing In the Alborán Sea near Gibraltar, six refugee boats were rescued from distress by the Spanish coast guard on December 20. At least 25 people are dead or missing.

According to the UNHCR, when a refugee boat sank off the Libyan Garaboli east of Tripoli, a woman and a child were killed and around 25 inmates are missing. 73 people were rescued by the Libyan coast guard and were taken to internment camps in Libya. The boat had capsized and the engine stolen.
June 11, 2019 Refugee boat at least 7 dead According to the Greek coast guard, at least seven people were killed when a refugee boat sank off the Greek island of Lesbos . 57 people were saved.
17th June 2019 Refugee boat at least 12 dead According to the Turkish coast guard, at least 12 people were killed when a refugee boat sank off the Turkish coast. 31 people could be saved.
3rd July 2019 Refugee boat 82 missing persons When a refugee boat from Libya sank off the Tunisian town of Zarzis , 4 people were rescued and 82 are missing, according to UNHCR information.
July 25, 2019 Refugee boat ≈ 150 missing persons When a refugee boat with about 300 people went down in front of the Libyan Al-Chums , 145 were rescued by fishermen and the Libyan coast guard, according to IOM. About 150 are missing and likely were killed.
from August 1, 2019 Refugee boat 14 dead On August 1, a refugee boat carrying 15 people left the Libyan Az-Zawiya . The boat drifted disoriented on the Mediterranean for 11 days and 14 people died without assistance. After eleven days, Frontex discovered the boat and the Maltese Navy was able to rescue an occupant.

On August 27, a refugee boat with over 100 people capsized in front of the Libyan Al-Chums and, according to the Libyan coast guard, 5 bodies were recovered and 40 people are missing.
August 28, 2019 Refugee boat 6 dead On August 28th, around 100 people were rescued from a sinking refugee boat from the rescue ship Mare Jonio of the aid organization Mediterranea Saving Humans . According to survivors, 6 people, including babies, had previously drowned.
2nd September 2019 Excursion boat Conception 8 dead,

On September 2, a fire broke out on the excursion boat Conception off the Californian island of Santa Cruz . Eight bodies were recovered and 26 people were missing as of September 3.
17th September 2019 Refugee boat 2 dead,
14 missing
On September 17, a refugee boat sank off the Tunisian coastal town of Sfax . Two bodies were recovered, 14 people are missing and nine people were saved.
October 7, 2019 Refugee boat 25 dead On October 7, a refugee boat with over 50 people on board capsized off the Libyan Misrata. Thirteen bodies were recovered and 22 people were saved. Children and pregnant women are among the missing. After a day-long search, the Italian coast guard discovered twelve more bodies.
October 12, 2019 Jia De freighter 5 dead,
3 missing
On October 12, 2019, the Panama-registered freighter Jia De sank in the port of Kawasaki when Typhoon Hagibis hit the island of Honshū . The typhoon was the worst in Japan in 60 years, according to the Coast Guard, and the situation was made worse by a simultaneous magnitude 5.7 earthquake. Five bodies were found and three crew members are missing.
November 6, 2019 Refugee boat 9 dead On November 6th, a refugee boat crashed into a rock in heavy seas off Lanzarote. Four people were saved and nine bodies recovered.
23rd November 2019 Refugee boat at least 18 dead On November 23, a refugee boat from Libya with around 170 people capsized in rough seas off Lampedusa. 147 people were rescued by the Italian coast guard, 18 bodies were recovered. The Italian public prosecutor in Agrigento took over the criminal investigation.
4th December 2019 Refugee boat at least 62 dead On December 4th, a refugee boat from Gambia with around 195 people capsized off the coast of Mauritania . 85 people could swim to the coast.
16th December 2019 Refugee boat 7 dead On December 16, a refugee boat sank while attempting to cross from Morocco to Spain after a fire broke out. Seven people drowned, 70 were rescued and brought to Nador in Morocco.

17th February 2020 Refugee boat 14 dead An overloaded boat with 24 refugees capsized off the Moroccan Atlantic coast. Fourteen people were saved by the Moroccan Navy.
February 18, 2020 Resplendent 1 dead The trawler Resplendent of Hangana Seafood fell after flooding in a short time before the central coast of Namibia . 26 seamen were rescued, the captain remains missing. March 2nd 2020 Refugee boat 1 dead On March 2, a refugee boat with 48 migrants from Turkey capsized off the Greek island of Lesbos. A toddler drowned.

The Tunisian coast guard rescued 11 migrants from a sinking boat off Sfax. Six people are missing and one dead was recovered.
June 6, 2020 Refugee boat at least 53 dead A refugee boat from Libya with at least 53 people on board sank in front of the Tunisian Sfax.
June 25, 2020 Refugee boat at least 6 dead A refugee boat sank off the Libyan coast near Khoms. According to the UN, at least six people died.
June 27, 2020 Refugee boat at least 60 dead On June 27, 2020, a fishing boat with 80 migrants on board capsized on Lake Van in Turkey. At least 60 people drowned.
July 25, 2020 Wakashio 0 The empty Capesize - bulk carriers with 101,932  gross tonnage , which was en route from Singapore to Brazil, ran for unclear reasons off the east coast of the island Mauritius near the beach of Mahébourg on a coral reef. As a result, the ship broke and more than 1000 tons of fuel leaked.

15th August 2020 Refugee boat at least 45 missing persons On August 15, a refugee boat sent an emergency call to an alarm phone off the Libyan coast near Zuwara . Local fishermen were able to rescue 37 people alive. At least 45 people are missing and likely drowned.

On August 15, a refugee boat from Mauritania tried to reach the Canary Islands. The Spanish coast guard found the boat floating around 150 km off the Canary Islands on August 19th.
