List of natural spatial units in Hessen

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This list of the natural spatial units in Hesse reflects the natural spatial units of a higher order insofar as they are wholly or partially in the area of Hesse . It is based on the natural spatial structure for Germany, as it was presented from the 1950s in the manual of the natural spatial structure of Germany and refined in individual sheets 1: 200,000 in the years up to 1972 .

This structure was revised by Otto Klausing in 1988 in the work The Natural Spaces of Hesse based on Hesse in such a way that the unit boundaries at the partly incompatible individual sheets 1: 200,000 became consistent.

The natural spatial main units are further broken down into sub-, partial and basic units, the scheme of the breakdown is:

  • Greater region of the 2nd order (e.g. Rhenish Slate Mountains )
    • One level below is the two-digit main unit group (e.g. Taunus )
      • This is followed by the three-digit main unit (e.g. Eastern Hintertaunus )
        • etc. (decimal places)
          • Singularities without numbers - a separate list of all singularities in Hessen can be found here

All of the following area data in km² relate to the proportion available in the state. No main unit group is completely in Hesse; Main and sub-units that are only partially located in Hesse have an asterisk (*) after the area.

Overview of the main units

First, an overview of all the main units represented in Hesse, the area of which has been rounded to whole square kilometers for the sake of clarity (more precise and detailed information can be found below).

  13. Map and legend of the natural areas of Hesse (online copy of Die Naturraum Hessens , Otto Klausing 1988) in the Hessen Environmental Atlas of the Hessian State Office for Environment and Geology
  14. All clickable area information in the Hessen Environmental Atlas relate to sub-units. If separately identified peninsula-like or island-like singularities or sub-units lie within a unit, their area must also be added up. The displayed area of 341.52 Wilde-Hügelland does not include that of the adjacent, nominal sub-unit 341.520 Braunauer Winkel .
Area measurements on the Amöneburg Basin (peninsula-like singularity) and Wilde-Hügelland / Braunauer Winkel (nominal subunit) unequivocally revealed this, with the Isthaberg (island-like singularity) with a slight uncertainty:
    (Innerer Isthaberg) :( outer Isthaberg) = 28: 160 = 0, 54: 3.09
    Amöneburg: Ohmsenke = 18: 291 = 4.6: 74.37
    (Braunauer Winkel): (Wilde hill country in the narrower sense ) = 54: 282 = 5.42: 28.3
  15. Unit 225.2 is de facto completely in Hesse and only minimally extends to Baden-Württemberg with the southern tip.
  16. Unit 320.00 is almost completely in Hesse: only small marginal portions in the northwest are in North Rhine-Westphalia.
  17. Klausing numbers a little differently and without a subscript, see article Waldecker Tafel !
  18. The southern Ringgau foothills touch Thuringia only minimally at their southeastern tip.
