Logan County is a county in the state of Kansas in the United States . The county seat is Oakley . The county is part of the dry counties , which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.

The county is located in northwest Kansas, about 50 km to the west from Colorado , and covers an area of 2,779 square kilometers with no significant body of water. It is bordered in a clockwise direction by the following counties: Thomas County , Gove County , Scott County , Wichita County , Wallace County, and Sherman Counties .
history
Logan County was formed on February 24, 1887. It was named after John Alexander Logan , a US general in the Mexican-American War and the American Civil War , and later US Senator from Illinois and candidate for the office of Vice President of the United States .
Three buildings and sites in the county are on the National Register of Historic Places (as of August 30, 2017).

Logan County had a population of 3,046 people as of the 2000 census . 57 of these people lived in collective accommodation, the other residents lived in 1243 households and 856 families. The population density was 1 person per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 96.7 percent white, 0.6 percent African American, 0.2 percent Native American, 0.2 percent Asian and 0.7 percent from other ethnic groups; 1.6 percent were descended from two or more races. 1.6 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 1,243 households, 29.5 percent had children under the age of 18 living with them. 59.3 percent were married couples living together, 6.3 percent were single mothers, and 31.1 percent were non-families. 28.6 percent of all households were single households and 14.8 percent had people aged 65 or over. The average household size was 2.40 and the average family size was 2.98 people.
25.4 percent of the population were under 18 years old. 7.2 percent between 18 and 24 years of age, 24.4 percent between 25 and 44 years of age, 22.3 percent between 45 and 64 years of age, and 20.7 percent were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 41 years. For every 100 females there were 93.6 males. For every 100 adult women aged 18 and over there were 93.0 men.
The median income for a household in the city is $ 32,131 , and the median income for a family is $ 40,104. Males had a median income of $ 28,105 versus $ 19,609 for females. The per capita income was $ 17,294. 4.7 percent of families and 7.3 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
