Marina Pavlovna Suprun
Marina Pawlowna Suprun ( Russian Марина Павловна Супрун ; born August 17, 1962 in Moscow ) is a former Soviet rower and two-time world champion in eight .
Athletic career
In 1979 Marina Suprun was third in the foursome with helmswoman at the Junior World Championships .
Six years later, the 1.82 m tall Marina Suprun was part of the Soviet eighth and won gold medals at the 1985 World Championships in Hazewinkel and 1986 in Nottingham . At the 1987 World Championships in Copenhagen, the Romanians won ahead of the US rowers, Suprun won the bronze medal with the Soviet eighth.
At the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul , Suprun competed in a foursome with a helmsman. Reda Ribinskaitė , Olena Teroschyna , Irina Teterina , Marina Suprun and helmswoman Walentina Chochlowa took second place behind the Romanians in the preliminary run. With a third place in the repechage they missed the A final, with a third place in the B final the Soviet rowers took ninth place in the overall standings.
After three years, Marina Suprun competed in two boat classes at the World Championships in Vienna in 1991 . In the four without a helmsman , she finished ninth, with eighth she won the silver medal. At the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona, Suprun competed with the eighth of the United Team . The crew took second place behind the German eighth in the run-up and qualified for the final with fourth place in the hope run. There they finished fourth, almost two seconds behind the Germans.
Marina Suprun started earlier for Spartak Moscow . After 1993 she competed for Belarus. At the 1993 World Championships , she finished seventh in the four without a helmsman and fifth with eighth. When she last participated in the World Championship in Indianapolis in 1994 , she reached the finals twice: With the uncontrolled four, she crossed the finish line in sixth, and the eighth finished in fifth place, as in the previous year.
