The community Milow belongs to the Grabow district in the Ludwigslust-Parchim district in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania (Germany).

Geography and transport links

The community in the southwest of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania borders the state of Brandenburg in the east and is located on the state road between Grabow and Lenzen . The Meynbach flows through the municipality in a south-westerly direction, where it flows north of Krinitz into the Alte Elde , which in turn touches the municipality in the west.

The districts Deibow, Görnitz, Kastorf, Krinitz , Milow and Semmerin belong to the community .

history

Historical finds, such as urns and arrowheads, speak for an early settlement of the district. The fertile fields of the community once belonged to the Pröttlin estate . Until the 19th century, half-timbered and clay buildings were built, only afterwards were they gradually converted to brick houses.

Before the federal states were dissolved in 1952, Milow was located within the former Brandenburg district of Westprignitz .

On January 1, 1974, Krinitz was incorporated into Gorlosen . On the initiative of the residents, the municipality with the district of Görnitz was able to achieve independence from May 1, 1990. On June 13, 2004 it was incorporated into Milow.

The municipality has no officially approved national emblem, neither a coat of arms nor a flag. The official seal is the small state seal with the coat of arms of the state of Mecklenburg. It shows a looking bull's head with torn off the neck and crown and the inscription "GEMEINDE MILOW".

church

The village church in Milow is an unusually wide field stone building. A half-timbered tower was later built over the west gable . The carved altar from the 16th century with the Madonna in the shrine is remarkable. In the wings of the altar there are reliefs from the story of Mary. The church's furnishings also include two carved figures: angel and Peter, which also date from the 16th century.
