The Saltwater National Park is a national park in the northeast of the Australian state of New South Wales , 250 km northeast of Sydney and around 15 km southeast of Taree .
Rare coastal rainforests and maritime wetlands can be found in the park . There are also two sandy beaches and a number of interesting capes. Many hiking trails lead through the national park and the adjacent Khappinghat Nature Reserve .
This stretch of beach has been a popular recreational area for over a hundred years. Before the European colonization of Australia, it served the Aborigines as a residence for thousands of years.
