The Maryland-National Park is a national park in the far northeast of the Australian state of New South Wales , 604 kilometers north of Sydney , 60 km north of Tenterfield and 30 km south of Warwick , right on the border with Queensland .
The park is located on the crest of the McPherson Ridge , a mountain range in the course of the Great Dividing Range . The park is part of the granite belt of the New England Highlands and the peaks reach heights between 770 m and 920 m. The annual rainfall amounts to 800-1000 mm. The mountain is covered with eucalyptus forest; mostly found are the New England Blackbutt (Eucalyptus andrewsii), the Forest Red Gum (Eucalyptus treticornis), the Gray Gum (Eucalyptus punctata), the Gray Ironbark (Eucalyptus paniculata), the Rough Barked Apple (Angoflora floribunda) and the Round-leafed Gum (Eucalyptus deanei). 40% of the park is classified as primary forest . 31 endangered animal species can be found in the forests.
Before it became a national park, the area was called the Maryland State Forest and was used for logging and grazing.
There are no roads in the park.
