The New England National Park is located in the area of the northern table country of the New England (Australia) region in the state of New South Wales of Australia . It is over 500 km north of Sydney , between Armidale and Dorrigo .
General
The first conservation efforts began around 1935, which is why the area is one of the oldest national parks in Australia. It was initially around 17,000 hectares and was expanded to 72,241 hectares over time.
The impressive landscape is characterized by a large demolition of the terrain, which enables great panoramic views.
nature
Different types of landscape occur in the protected area: subtropical rainforests in higher elevations and hardwood forests, but also heather and swamp areas. A total of over 1000 plant species have been registered so far.
Of rare mammals were among others koalas , tiger quoll , the Brown Antechinus , bandicoots and various bats of remarkable birds found wedge-tailed eagle , umbrella cockatoo , Lyrebird , Rußeule , Pennant parakeet , King Parrot and honey eaters .

In 1987 the national park became a UNESCO World Heritage Site as part of Australia's Gondwana Rainforests .
