The Broadwater National Park ( English Broadwater National Park ) is located in the Australian state of New South Wales , about 750 km north of Sydney and 240 km south of Brisbane , between the Richmond River and the sea. It covers about 4,225 hectares and was placed under protection in 1974.
General
For centuries the members of the Aboriginal tribe of the Bundjalung used the area for their semi-nomadic life as hunters and gatherers. To this day they live in the vicinity of the national park, which continues to have a deep cultural and religious relationship with them.
nature
In the national park there is a great variety of different animal and plant species. The types of vegetation such as coastal heaths, wetlands and eucalyptus forests are also very diverse. In spring, the many wild flowers turn the area into a sea of flowers. Species such as Blandfordia , golden bush peas , hook lilies and orchids (species of the genus Thelymitra ) are particularly striking .
Many birds can be seen in the heather and on the coast, especially in spring and autumn. On the beach these are u. a. Species such as the shearwater , Australian oystercatcher , seagulls and terns. Sea eagles and ospreys are also seen regularly. The swamps are the habitat of numerous waders such as ibises, herons and brolga cranes . Giant storks are also seen occasionally .
In mammals z. B. swamp wallaby , red-necked wallaby , ant urchins , nasal cones , flying foxes and ring pouches are among the inhabitants of the area, which can be observed by visitors to the park.
tourism
There are various hiking trails in the park that open up individual parts of the park. In some places the area can be accessed by bike. All-wheel drive is often required if routes are allowed to be traveled by motor vehicle. A rest area is available, but only with simple sanitary facilities.
