The Basket Swamp National Park is a national park in the northeast of the Australian state of New South Wales , 558 km north of Sydney .

Most of this area 15 km northeast of Tenterfield is a swamp with soils rich in organic matter. The trees have a certain yellow color that can be traced back to old sulfur deposits. The fauna and flora are impressive. The name of the park is derived from the central swamp surrounded by bushes. The branches of these shrubs formed a web.

This weave of shrub branches remained unexplored until 1998 when Marshall Martin discovered a sea plain that had been disconnected from other areas for thousands of years and on which diverse endemic fish species had developed. Artifacts 10,000 to 15,000 years old have recently been found in a deeper layer of the earth (No. 27) in this area. This discovery is sure to change the way people look at Aboriginal cultures in Australia.
