history

The Aboriginesstämme the Dharug and Ku-ring-gai lived for 11,000 years ago in what is now the National Park. Remnants of this culture can still be seen in many places in the park.

From the first days of European settlement until around 1980, wood was felled in the area of today's park. There were also some farms on land that the government gave to the released inmates. In the middle of the 20th century, however, the last settlers moved away as the costs of transporting goods to buyers in Sydney became increasingly higher.

On November 30, 1994, the area was declared a national park.
