The Ben Halls Gap National Park is a national park in the east of the Australian state of New South Wales , 250 kilometers north of Sydney and around 50 kilometers west of Quirindi .

The national park is located on the Great Dividing Range north of Gulph Mountain at the transition from the Liverpool Range to the Mount Royal Range . It is known for its large population of eucalyptus - primary forest that has not been damaged by livestock. The park immediately west of the source of the Peel River has no road access and no visitor facilities. Visiting this park is only permitted for scientific or educational purposes and requires the approval of the national park administration.

The name is reminiscent of Ben Hall sen. , the father of Ben Hall, who was a robber chief in the Weddin Mountains . After immigrating from Europe, the family first lived in the Hunter Valley area .
