The Gaagal Wanggaan (South Beach) National Park is a national park in the northeast of the Australian state of New South Wales , about 85 kilometers north of Port Macquarie and about 45 kilometers south of Coffs Harbor .
The park comprises the flat stretch of coast from the mouth of the Nambucca River across from the town of Nambucca Heads in the north to the small town of Scotts Head in the south and the east bank of the coastal Warrell Creek . In the local Aboriginal language , the Gumbaynggirr , the name 'Gaagal Wanggaan' means South Beach. The Aboriginal people are also involved in the management of the park.
In the national park there are a number of Gumbaynggirr cult sites as well as natural sand dunes, heathland, small rain forest areas and palm forests. Mangrove swamps , salt marshes and seagrass fields on Warrell Creek are also protected in the area of the river mouth . This humid coastal area serves as a stopover for migratory birds and as a habitat for the little tern and the beach triel .
The park can be hiked and is also accessible by four-wheel drive vehicles.
