The Minjary National Park is a national park in the southeast of the Australian state of New South Wales , 92 km west of Canberra and 10 km northwest of Tumut .
The park is located north of Kosciuszko National Park and was the Minjary State Forest before it was designated a national park . The national park extends along Meadow Creek and Minjary Creek , tributaries of the Tumut River . The light, grassy forest is typical of the south-western slopes of the Australian Alps and is considered an endangered biotope.
The area formerly formed the border between the settlement areas of the Wiradjuri and the Walgalu , both Aboriginal tribes . It was on the Aboriginal routes from the Western Plains to the mountains. The Minjary Mountain had a meaning as a place of worship for the natives. At the beginning of the 19th century there was extensive logging in the area of today's national park for the extraction of construction timber for fences and firewood for the operation of steam engines.
Leisure activities in the national park include hang gliding, hiking, horse riding and mountain biking.
There are no paved roads in the park.
