The Nowendoc National Park is a national park in the east of the Australian state of New South Wales , 375 km north of Sydney , 70 km south of Walcha and immediately west of the small town of Nowendoc .
The park on the eastern slopes of the Great Dividing Range is wild rock stepland dominated by eucalyptus forests . There is also some temperate rainforest along the streams . Myall Creek and Callaghans Creek , headwaters of the Barnard River, flow through the park .
Driveways and facilities
All access roads are unpaved, winding and sometimes very steep. They are not suitable for campers. The park consists of two parts: the larger part can be reached from Thunderbolts Way northwest of Nowendoc and contains the Myall Creek Campground and Callaghans Canyon . The smaller part in the southeast with Wright's Hut can only be reached with four-wheel drive vehicles and only if you get the key for the access gate south of Nowendoc from the national park administration. The smaller, wooded part of the park is on Millers Road .
At Myall Creek, in a high eucalyptus forest, there is a simply equipped campsite with a wood-fired barbecue grill, but otherwise no other facilities. This area and the area around Wright's Hut are accessible by four-wheel drive vehicles in dry weather. Independent hikers can explore small waterfalls and the rainforest that are worth seeing. Further away from the campsite there are canyons, larger waterfalls and cultural sites that are worth seeing.
