Saran is a French municipality with 16,365 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Loiret in the region Center-Val de Loire .
geography
The small town is located about five kilometers north - and thus already in the direct catchment area - of Orléans , and 105 kilometers south of Paris . Saran is on the edge of the Forêt d'Orléans Natural Park .
Neighboring municipalities are Cercottes , Chanteau , Fleury-les-Aubrais , Orléans , Saint-Jean-de-la-Ruelle , Ingré , Ormes and Gidy .

The former test track of the Aérotrain d'Orléans , a hovercraft project that was pursued between 1965 and 1974, runs through Saran .
