The Scottish FA Cup was played for the 85th time in 1969/70 . The main Scottish football cup competition, which was directed and hosted by the Scottish Football Association, began on December 6, 1969 and ended with the final on April 11, 1970 in Hampden Park in Glasgow. Celtic FC started as defending champions in the competition, which prevailed 4-0 against the Rangers in the Old Firm in the previous year's final . At this year's event, Celtic lost the final of the Scottish Cup against FC Aberdeen . The Dons, who won their second cup victory in Scotland after 1947 , took part in the European Cup Winners' Cup the following season . After the finals there was the match between the referee Bobby Davidson and team manager of Celtic Jock Stein to controversies that still lasted for a few years after the final. On May 6, 1970 Celtic lost the final in the European Cup against Feijenoord Rotterdam .
