The Sioux County is a county in the US -amerikanischen State Iowa . In 2010 , the county had 33,704 residents and a population density of 17.2 people per square kilometer. By 2014 the population increased to 34,681. The county seat is Orange City .
geography
The county is located in northwest Iowa, is about 25 miles from Minnesota to the north , borders South Dakota to the west , with the Big Sioux River forming the boundary . It has an area of 1989 square kilometers, of which two square kilometers are water.
The Northwest of Sioux County is traversed by the Rock River up to its confluence with the Big Sioux River . Further east, the Floyd River and its western tributary flow south, which belong to the Missouri basin.

Sioux County was formed on January 15, 1851. It was self-administered from January 20, 1860. It was named after the Indian people of the Sioux .
The first seat of the county administration was in Calliope in 1860, then a small village with 15 inhabitants. The first courthouse was built here in 1860 and served as such until 1872. From 1869, there was a major wave of immigration, mainly from the Netherlands . In 1872 Orange City was declared the district capital. In June 1902, construction began on a new red sandstone courthouse and was completed in 1904. From 1976 to 1982 the building was completely renovated and still serves as a district court today. In 1977 it was included in the National Register of Historic Places.

According to the 2010 census , Sioux County had 33,704 people in 11,522 households. The population density was 17.2 inhabitants per square kilometer. Statistically, 2.72 people lived in each of the 11,522 households.
The racial the population was composed of 93.3 percent white, 0.4 percent African American, 0.3 percent Native American, 0.8 percent Asian and other ethnic groups; 0.9 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 8.9 percent of the population.
26.8 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 58.9 percent were between 18 and 64 and 14.3 percent were 65 years or older. 50.1 percent of the population was female.
The median income for a household was 51,557 USD . The per capita income was $ 21,333. 6.4 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
