Wolschwiller ( German Wolschweiler ) is a French commune with 453 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Haut-Rhin department in the Grand Est region ( Alsace until 2015 ). The municipality is located in the canton of Altkirch in the arrondissement of Altkirch .
geography
The municipality of Wolschwiller is located at the foot of the Jura on the border with Switzerland , 20 kilometers southwest of downtown Basel .
The Börsegraben, which is called Birsig on Swiss territory, begins southeast of the village center . Another body of water is the Pfaffenbach, which flows north to the Ill . Wolschwiller borders in the north on Oltingue , in the east on Biederthal and Burg im Leimental (Switzerland), in the south on Kleinlützel (Switzerland), in the south-west on Kiffis and in the west on Lutter .
history
From 1871 until the end of the First World War , Wolschwiller belonged to the German Empire as part of the realm of Alsace-Lorraine and was assigned to the Altkirch district in the Upper Alsace district .
