Carling (German Karlingen ) is a French commune with 3445 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Moselle department in the Grand Est region (until 2016 Lorraine ). Carling belongs to the Forbach-Boulay-Moselle arrondissement .

Carling is right on the border with Germany, more precisely the Saarland . The German neighbor is Lauterbach . The Lauterbach, which flows into the Rossel in Geislautern, rises in Carling.
Carling is on the road from Saarlouis via Überherrn to Saint-Avold . French neighboring towns are Creutzwald , these and L'Hôpital .
history
Carling was founded in 1714 by Count Karl-Ludwig from Saarbrücken . In 1728 twelve houses were counted, in 1756 there were 22.
In 1770, Prince Ludwig Carling from Saarbrücken ceded to France in exchange for Emmersweiler and Baerendorf . The French King Louis XV. Carling incorporated the Barony Überherrn, founded in 1767 . The barony also included the villages of Wilhelmsbronn , this and part of L'Hôpital, which were exchanged by Saarbrücken in 1766 .
In 1812, Carling and L'Hôpital were united under the rule of Napoleon . 25 years later, the citizenship demanded the dissolution of this association, which did not take place until 1894.
