Scattered across the city of Braunschweig are numerous memorials and memorials , statues, reliefs , memorial stones and plaques that have been put up on various occasions over the centuries. However, some of these works are no longer available for various reasons (mostly due to wars).

Undoubtedly the most important works in terms of art history and urban history are also the oldest:

  • Special features: The 3rd version of the Quadriga was made after the remains of the 2nd version had been completely scrapped as part of the demolition of the castle in 1960, based on a 1: 3 original model by Rietschel.
  • Status: Only the head remains of the original from 1863 and can be viewed in the municipal museum . Since the spring of 2007, the 3rd version of the Quadriga should be on the new building of the Braunschweig Palace. Static problems delayed the planned date until 2008, when the “largest quadriga in Europe” finally returned to the castle in October.

  • Special features: The original broomstick was stored during the Second World War and placed on Hugo-Luther-Straße after the end of the war, where it was probably stolen by junk robbers in 1953 . In 1954, a stone copy was placed in front of the Braunschweiger Baugenossenschaft building on Mauernstrasse. After numerous damages, a bronze figure was cast again on June 3, 1987 on the occasion of the centenary of the building cooperative.

On October 1, 2010, on the 20th anniversary of German reunification on October 3, 2010, the day of German unity , the Wall Memorial was supplemented by a stone commemorative plaque. It contains a quote from the address given by the then German President Richard von Weizsäcker on the occasion of the state ceremony on the occasion of the Day of German Unity on October 3, 1990.
