Lane County is a county in the state of Kansas in the United States . The county seat is Dighton . Dighton is the only town in Lane County. The county is part of the dry counties , which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.

The county is located in west central Kansas and covers an area of 1,858 square kilometers, one square kilometer of which is water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Gove County , Ness County , Finney County, and Scott County .
history
Lane County was formed on March 20, 1873. It was named after James H. Lane , a US Senator from Kansas.
Two buildings and sites in the county are on the National Register of Historic Places (as of August 30, 2017).

As of the 2000 census , Lane County had 2,155 people in 910 households and 613 families in Lane County. The population density was 1 person per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 97.73 percent white, 0.05 percent African American, 0.00 percent Native American, 0.00 percent Asian, 0.05 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 0.51 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 1.58 percent were descended from two or more races. 1.44 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 910 households, 29.5 percent had children under the age of 18 living with them. 59.1 percent were married couples living together, 5.1 percent were single mothers, and 32.6 percent were non-families. 30.3 percent of all households were single households and 16.5 percent had people aged 65 or over. The average household size was 2.34 and the average family size was 2.91 people.
25.4 percent of the population were under 18 years old. 5.4 percent between 18 and 24 years of age, 24.6 percent between 25 and 44 years of age, 24.1 percent between 45 and 64 years of age, and 20.5 percent were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 42 years. For every 100 females there were 100.3 males. For every 100 adult women aged 18 and over there were 97.7 men.
The median income for a household in the city is $ 36,047 , and the median income for a family is $ 41,892. Males had a median income of $ 29,429 versus $ 20,446 for females. The per capita income was $ 18,606.
