Location and description

Neuenherweg is located south of the main town in Halver at 425 meters above sea level on the L528 state road on the watershed of the Ennepe and Volme river systems . In addition to the main town, the neighboring towns are the suburbs of Burg , Im Heede , Oesterberg , Collenberg , Oberherweg , Howarde and Winkhof .

Across from the main road, a new building area in Halver has spread to the local area.

history

Neuenherweg was first mentioned in a document in 1764 and was created the year before as a split from Bocklenberg and Strätershäuschen.

In 1818 ten residents lived in the village. According to the table of localities and distances from the government district of Arnsberg , Neuenherweg was categorized as a farm and in 1838 had a population of 26, all of whom were Protestant. The place belonged to the Halveran village farmers within the Halver mayor and had two houses, a factory or mill and two agricultural buildings.

The municipality encyclopedia for the province of Westphalia from 1887 gives a number of 20 inhabitants who lived in three houses.

In Neuenherweg two important old streets crossed , early medieval (according to other views already prehistoric ) trade , pilgrimage and military routes . On the one hand the Altstrasse from Cologne via Wipperfürth , Halver, Lüdenscheid , Werdohl and Arnsberg to Soest (on the line north of Im Heede - Neuenherweg - Oberherweg ) and on the other hand the Altstrasse from Hagen via Breckerfeld , Halver and Rönsahl to Siegen (on the line Halver - Neuenherweg - west of the castle ). A third old road from Halver via Wipperfürth, Halver, Kierspe to Meinerzhagen , the Hileweg , also branched off in Neuenherweg and ran south on the route of today's state road L528. Like the other -herweg places in Halver (Oberherweg, Niederherweg , Mittelherweg , Schröders Herweg , Herweger Schleifkotten ), the place name is derived from the location on the old roads (Heerwege).
