Roques ( Gaskognisch Ròcas ) is a French commune with 104 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Gers department in the Occitania region (until 2015 Midi-Pyrénées ); it belongs to the arrondissement Auch and to the community association Artagnan de Fezensac . The residents call themselves Roquois / Roquoises .
geography
Roques is located around 32 kilometers northwest of Auch in the north of the Gers department. The community consists of scattered settlements and individual farmsteads. There are numerous vineyards. The river Osse crosses the municipality in a northerly direction and in parts forms the western municipal boundary.
Neighboring municipalities are Gondrin in the north-west and north, Lagardère in the north-east and east, Bezolles in the south-east, Justian in the south and Courrensan in the south-west and west.
history
In the Middle Ages, Roques was in the county of Vic-Fezensac within the Armagnac region in the historic Gascony region and shared its fate. Roques was part of the District Condom from 1793 to 1801. From 1801 to 2015 the municipality was assigned to the Arrondissement Condom and from 1793 to 2015 it belonged to the canton of Valence-sur-Baïse (originally canton Valence).
Population development
The population development is typical for a French rural community. The developments between 1793 and 1841 are normal with strong growth and the subsequent strong rural exodus. Between 1975 and 2006, the population ranged from 120 to 135 people. The current population is the lowest since 1793.

traffic
The community is far away from national traffic routes and has no rail or bus connections. The main regional transport routes are the D35, which passes west of the village, and the N124 with a connection in Vic-Fezensac.
