Premier Division 1988/89

The Scottish Football League Premier Division was played for the 15th time in 1989/90 . It was also the 93rd edition of a top soccer division within the Scottish Football League in which the Scottish champions were determined. In the 1989/90 season, 10 clubs competed against each other in a total of 36 match days. Each team played twice at home and twice against every other team. The 2-point rule applied . In the event of a tie, the goal difference counted .

The Glasgow Rangers won the Scottish Championship for the 40th time in the club's history. The Gers qualified as champions for the following European Champion Clubs' Cup 1990/91 season . As a cup winner , FC Aberdeen qualified for the European Cup Winners' Cup . Third and fourth placed Heart of Midlothian and Dundee United qualified for the UEFA Cup .

FC Dundee relegated to the First Division at the end of the season . Heart of Midlothian's John Robertson was the top scorer with 17 goals .
