history

St. Andrew's Church

Třebechovice, whose founding can be traced back to a Třeboch legend, was first mentioned in 1358 as "Altus pons". The bridge over the Dědina was then in the area of today's old town. The parish church of St. Andrew is documented for the year 1384. From around the middle of the 14th century Hohenbruck was owned by the Hynek ( Hynko ) Hlawatsch von Dubá ( Hynek Hlaváč z Dubé ). His descendant, Hynek IV, sided with the Hussites who were imprisoning citizens of Königgrätz in the Hohenbruck Fortress .

Already at the beginning of the Hussite movement, supporters of Jan Hus gathered on a hill above Hohenbruck on which a wooden chapel stood . They named the hill after the biblical mountain Horeb "Oreb". The Orebiten , led by Hynek Kruschina von Lichtenburg , named themselves after this meeting place .

After 1432 Hohenbruck came to the Hussite captain Přibík Kroměšín von Březovice. His daughter Johanna / Johanka, who lived with Nikolaus d. Ä. Trčka of Lípa ( Mikuláš Trčka z Lípy was married), 1496 sold the festivals Hohenbruck with the Grange and the arboretum, the town Hohenbruck and the villages Nepasice , Blešno , Librantice , Jeníkovice , Krňovice , Čenkov , Lično , Petrovičky, Výrava , Hlýšovice, Lozice and Bělušovice for 5000 shock groschen to Nikolaus the Elder. J. Trčka from Lípa, who permanently linked it with his Opočno estate . After he died in 1516 without heirs, Hohenbruck returned to his widow Johanna, who died in 1527. During the reign of her son Zdenko, who had his seat in the Opočno Castle , the fortress lost its importance and fell into disrepair. It was last mentioned in 1544. In 1567 a city fire destroyed large parts of Třebechovice.

Because of the compulsory recatholization of the subjects ordered by Jan Rudolf Trčka of Lípa , there were peasant riots throughout the Opočno estate in 1628. After Jan Rudolf's death in 1634, his property was confiscated, whereby Třebechovice came in 1636 to the brothers Hieronymus and Rudolf von Colloredo-Waldsee , who also took merciless action against non-Catholics. After the end of patrimonial Třebechovice became a free town in 1849. The last landlord was Franz de Paula Gundacker II von Colloredo- Mannsfeld.

Industry settled in the second half of the 19th century. In 1920 the name of the hill Oreb was added to the town name, which has been Třebechovice pod Orebem since then .
