Caren Metschuck (born 27 September 1963) is a German former swimmer and a multiple Olympic gold medalist.

Early life

Metschuck was born in Greifswald, East Germany in 1963.

Career

With the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow, Metschuck won Olympic gold in the 100 m butterfly. She also won gold in the 4×100 m freestyle relay team and the 4×100 m backstroke relay. Thus she became the most successful female competitor of the 1980 Summer Olympic Games.

One year later, she won the European Championships in Split over 100 m freestyle and triumphed again with the 4×100 m freestyle relay and the 4×100 m medley relay team. After the World Championships 1982 and the world champion title with the 4×100 m freestyle relay, she terminated her short career and became a teacher.

She also competed for the SC Dynamo Berlin.[1][2]
