The 2012 Citi Open was a tennis tournament held in Washington, DC , July 29 through August 5, 2012 . It was part of the ATP World Tour 2012 and was played on hard court. The Summer Olympics took place in London at the same time as the Citi Open . The Citi Open belonged to the ATP World Tour 500 category .

Defending champion in the individual was Radek Štěpánek , who took part in the Olympic Games and therefore did not defend the title. In the final, Oleksandr Dolhopolow prevailed against Tommy Haas ; it is Dolgopolov's first season and second career title. In doubles, the pairing Michaël Llodra and Nenad Zimonjić were the defending champions, but they too both took part in the Olympic Games this year. Treat Huey and Dominic Inglot both celebrated their first ATP title in Washington, defeating Kevin Anderson and Sam Querrey in the final .

The field of participants in the individual competition consisted of 32 players, that of the doubles competition consisted of 16 pairs.

The qualification took place from July 27-28, 2012. Four qualifying places were played, which entitle them to participate in the main draw of the tournament.
