Hem (NDL .: "Ham") is a northern French municipality with 18,617 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Nord in the region of Hauts-de-France . The municipality is directly connected to the urban area of Roubaix in the north and belongs to the canton of Croix .

history

In the Middle Ages the place was already known as Ham or Hem . Textile manufacturers have been located in Hem since 1672. After the Second World War , the population rose over 10,000.
