List of soccer top scorers (Austria)
The Austrian football top scorer is traditionally referred to as those football players who score the most goals in a Bundesliga season or who have scored the most top division goals overall. In both cases it is a matter of pure prestige success, which is highly regarded by the media, but is in no way rewarded by the Austrian Football Association or by private parties.
The best shooter in the history of the Austrian championship is Robert Dienst , who leads the all-time table with 323 first division goals just ahead of Johann Krankl . Dienst scored his first goal for Floridsdorfer AC on April 16, 1944 against LSV Markersdorf and ended his scoring career on May 12, 1962 in the dress of 1. Schwechater SC with a brace against Kapfenberger SC . To date, the top scorer of the season is Karl Decker , who scored an average of 2.06 goals per championship game in 1943/44 for First Vienna FC 1894 almost every 43 minutes . Hans Krankl scored the most goals in a season in 1977/78. Most of the titles as top scorer of the season went to Franz Binder from SK Rapid Wien , and he was honored six times.
For a long time, the seasons of the top Austrian league lasted an average of only 18 rounds, but currently 36 rounds. The performance of the individual players can only be compared to a limited extent, as older players have far fewer stakes in their careers than younger ones. The seasons 1914/15 and 1944/45 have a special position here , because due to the First and Second World War , these were only played with 9 rounds. While the championship title from 1915 is officially recognized by the ÖFB, in 1945 this is only unofficially the case.
