List of churches in the Vogelsbergkreis
The list of churches in the Vogelsbergkreis includes the preserved church buildings in the Vogelsbergkreis ( Central Hesse ).
The Vogelsbergkreis comprises around 160 churches; even small villages often have their own place of worship. The district is known for its many half-timbered churches , around 45 of which have been preserved. After the Thirty Years' War , many churches were built in the style of the Baroque three-sided circuit and hoods roof rider . About 70 baroque churches have been preserved. There are relatively few Roman Catholic churches in the district; the approximately 20 buildings stand opposite about 140 Protestant churches. Most of the Catholic churches were built after the Second World War due to the large number of refugees and displaced persons from Eastern Europe.
