from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The MTV Video Music Award for Best Rock Video , along with Best Dance Video and Best Rap Video, is one of three genre awards that were introduced in 1989. The award changed its name several times. In 1989 it was introduced as Best Heavy Metal Video . The name was changed to Best Metal / Hard Rock Video in the next edition . For the MTV Video Music Awards 1996 it was renamed to Best Metal / Hard Rock Video once . It was given its current name at the 1997 MTV Video Music Awards and has been awarded continuously since then, with the exception of the 2007 MTV Video Music Awards .

Aerosmith , Fall Out Boy and Linkin Park were each nominated eight times. Aerosmith are also the biggest winners with four wins. In 1995, White Zombies bassist Sean Yseult became the first woman to receive the award.
