Ala ( German outdated Ahl am Etsch or Halla ) is an Italian commune ( comune ) with 8808 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Trento , region of Trentino-South Tyrol . It belongs to the valley community Comunità della Vallagarina .

geography

Ala is located on the orographic left side of the Adige Valley at the beginning of the Val di Ronchi, and about 42 km south of Trento and about 60 km north of Verona . In Ala, the Torrente Ala of the same name flows from the Val di Ronchi into the Adige , which also forms the northern border of the historic center of Ala. The municipality borders on the two provinces of Verona and Vicenza, which are part of the Veneto region .

The neighboring municipalities are Rovereto , Mori , Vallarsa , Brentonico and Avio , all in the province of Trento, as well as Recoaro Terme and Crespadoro in the province of Vicenza and Erbezzo , Bosco Chiesanuova , Sant'Anna d'Alfaedo and Selva di Progno in the province of Verona.

Administrative division

The municipality of Ala includes the following eight fractions : Chizzola, Marani, Pilcante, Ronchi, Santa Margherita, Sdruzzinà, Sega di Ala and Serravalle .

The Brenner motorway (A22) and the Brennerbahn run through Ala . Only regional trains to Verona or Bologna stop at Ala station . From 1866 to 1919 Ala was the border station between the Austrian Empire , from 1867 Austria-Hungary and the Kingdom of Italy .
