Flitterabend the name of one was game show , the 1988 to 1995 on Saturday night in the first of the program ARD aired. Moderator was Michael Schanze . In 1995 he received the Telestar TV award for best entertainment presentation . Martina Fuchs worked as the moderator's assistant, and the Jürgen Franke band provided live music in the first few episodes. A total of 43 editions of the show were broadcast.

Show concept

In this game show, three newly married couples - who usually wore their bridal clothes - competed against each other and played for a grand honeymoon as a prize for the winning couple. To do this, various assessment, knowledge and action games had to be successfully completed. Points were awarded in the form of champagne bottles won. There were various show acts by international artists between the game rounds. Star guests from abroad were often persuaded to do a live encore accompanied by Michael Schanze on the wing.

introduction

An entrance portal opened to the theme tune (in the style of a winter garden or castle) and presenter Michael Schanze stepped in front of the hall audience. While the introductory texts were initially general, they later turned into stand-up conferences with a current reference. They should reinforce the live character of the show. This was followed by assistant Martina with several pairs of children in festive clothes on the show stairs. The so-called flower children were involved in general conversations by Michael Schanze, then scattered flowers for the participating bridal couples and no longer took part in the program - also due to the German Youth Protection Act.

Persuasion game

In musical form, Michael Schanze told short stories of the couples getting to know each other while singing. This was immediately followed by a round of improvisation, which the bridal couple had to design as creatively as possible. As a counterpart, they received actors or comedians like Samy Orfgen or Piet Klocke , who were supposed to convince them of a given fact in a role play. In this round, the couples were rated by the television viewers via TED.

Celebrity couple

The guest couple, at least some of them prominent, told their story in two different versions. The candidate pairs had to guess which variant was correct.

Dare game

Usually the male participants had to deliver a “test of courage”, while the female candidates were given a creative task. The other spouse was sent backstage and later returned to the guessing round.

Match game

Separated by a wall or shielded by headphones, the candidates had to answer questions about the partner. If they found a match, the couple received points.

Consolation prize

Couples who did not make it to victory received a consolation prize from the assistant “Bobby Flitter” (portrayed by Bruno Horn). Mostly it was a piece of furniture or accessories for the common home. This win was announced by Michael Schanze with the words: "Losing is not bitter for you, here comes our Bobby Flitter".

"Cloud nine"

At a height of several meters, the two remaining couples sat in cloud-shaped seats. There they had to answer questions asked by Michael Schanze. In the first loser level, the cloud seats went down one step, in the second the seats tilted, in the third the straps came loose and the loser couple fell into a large pillow bed. The colorful pillow cases were printed with the honeymoon logo. This retired couple also received their award from “Bobby Flitter”.

Final round

Six action game tasks had to be solved by the bridal couple on time. Often the audience was involved. Usually manual skills or strength were also required to solve the tasks. If the couple managed all the games within the allotted time, they received a dream vacation with a worldwide goal, which, if not fulfilled, was limited to Europe.

Trivia

  • As part of the Saturday evening show “Congratulations” Michael Schanze said that he owed the deceased showmaster and entertainer Rudi Carrell the moderation of the “Flitterabend”. Carrell knew the original from Dutch television, the presenter of which was reminiscent of Michael Schanze in appearance and presentation, and encouraged him to take over the German version.
  • In the SWR series "How are you ...?" Michael Schanze described calls from TV viewers who, to the horror of the whole team, made racist comments about the first Afro-American pair of participants.
  • In 1990 the new show star "Raffaella" was presented on the show. In reality it was the singer and presenter Paola, who disguised herself unrecognizable. This misleading was later resolved on the show "Do You Understand Fun?"
  • In 1991 the male candidates were given three options to throw a cream cake in the face of a person who was initially unknown to them. One after the other appeared: a bodybuilder / wrestling athlete, the then “Lotto Fee” Karin Tietze-Ludwig and the groom's employer. Although Michael Schanze tried to stop him, a candidate spontaneously threw the cake at Tietze-Ludwig. As a justification, he stated that he had not achieved a top lottery win for years.
  • In 1992 there was a test of courage in which the male candidates, to the annoyance of their wives, had their bald heads cut during the live broadcast. As an additional price, they were promised a savings account for the first-born child.
