English national cricket team in Sri Lanka in the 2000/01 season
The tour of the English national cricket team to Sri Lanka in the 2000/01 season took place from February 5 to March 27, 2001. The international cricket tour was part of the 2000/01 international cricket season and included three test matches and three ODIs . England won the Test Series 2–1 while Sri Lanka won the ODI Series 3–0.
prehistory
Sri Lanka previously did a tour in New Zealand , England in Pakistan . The last meeting of the two teams on a tour took place in England in the 1998 season .

Squad
England named their squad on December 18, 2000. Sri Lanka named their test squad on January 21 and their ODI squad on March 21, 2001.

Sri Lankan captain Sanath Jayasuriya was fined for openly showing dissenting opinion (he had thrown his helmet in an advertising banner) to the referee and was further suspended from the game. The wicket that led to this reaction was very controversial and so this was one of the occasions on which the refereeing system was reformed, along with the Dennes incident .
