Foussais-Payré is a French commune with 1,130 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) to the east of the department Vendée in the region of Pays de la Loire . It belongs to the canton of Fontenay-le-Comte in the Arrondissement of Fontenay-le-Comte .

Foussais-Payré is twelve kilometers northeast of Fontenay-le-Comte . The Vendée flows through the municipality.

politics
Foussais-Payré received in 1793 in the course of the French Revolution the status of a municipality (as Foussay ) and in 1801 the right to local self-government (also as Foussay ). In 1968 Payré-sur-Vendée was incorporated and the municipality was given its current name.
Foussais-Payré is part of the Pays de Fontenay-Vendée municipal association .
A community partnership with the Bavarian community of Egling an der Paar has existed since July 5, 1990 .
Attractions
The Romanesque church of Foussais was first mentioned in a document in the 10th century. It was rebuilt in the 15th century, whereby the richly decorated facade from the 12th century was preserved. The church was classified as a Monument historique (historical monument) in 1862 .
Today's town hall in Foussais is located in the old building of a priory from the 13th century. It has been partially registered in the additional directory of the Monuments historiques since 1986 ( inscrit MH ).
The house of François Laurens was built around 1557 for a distributor of Foussais. The facade on the side of the church square has been preserved, but the interior of the building has been greatly changed. It is privately owned and was entered in the supplementary directory of the Monuments historiques in 1989.
economy
The image of the community is characterized by fields and meadows. The main occupations of the Foussaisiens (residents) are agriculture , viticulture , fruit growing and the breeding of domestic cattle .
