VfB Stuttgart became the first in the 1983/84 season in the German Bundesliga and thus German men's championship .

Season overview

The championship was decided on matchday 34, before which VfB Stuttgart (first in the table since matchday 29) was two points ahead of HSV . The goal difference of Stuttgart was nine better than that of Hamburg. On matchday 33, Stuttgart won 2-1 at Werder Bremen , while HSV, who had been tied on points up to that point, lost their home game against Eintracht Frankfurt 2-0. On the last day of the match, Stuttgart played their last home game against Hamburg. Hamburg won 1-0 and stayed second. The first three clubs (VfB, HSV and Mönchengladbach) were tied, with FC Bayern 1 point behind and 3 points behind the 1983 runner-up trio from Bremen. There was only a 3 point difference between the champion and 5th place. This has never happened again to this day.

Kickers Offenbach was the third Bundesliga club to concede more than 100 goals after Tasmania Berlin (65/66) and Rot-Weiss Essen (76/77). 1. FC Nürnberg was the first and so far only club to lose all away games during the season.

The 32nd matchday of the 1983/84 season was the Bundesliga matchday with the highest number of goals to date with a total of 53 goals.
