Langsur ( Luxembourgish Laser ) is a municipality in the district of Trier-Saarburg in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the Trier-Land community .

geography

location

The municipality is located on the Sauer , the border river to the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg , a few hundred meters before it flows into the Moselle near Wasserbillig .

history

Langsur was first mentioned in a document in 978, when Archbishop Egbert von Trier donated the Langsur district to the Church of St. Maternus in Trier.

In the following centuries Langsur belonged to Lotharingia , Luxembourg , Burgundy and Prussia one after the other . The border with Luxembourg has existed since the Congress of Vienna in 1815, as a result of which the Sauer was designated as a border river.

On March 16, 1974, the previously independent municipalities of Grewenich (at that time 93 inhabitants), Mesenich (364 inhabitants) and Metzdorf (234 inhabitants) were incorporated into Langsur.

Events

The Deulux run takes place annually in November. It took place for the first time in 1992. The running event includes several youth runs and a 10 km run. In 2006, with 1455 runners registered at the finish, it was the 10 km run with the highest number of participants in Rhineland-Palatinate.

Economy and Infrastructure

Business

The town's economy is determined by viticulture ( Elbling ), agriculture , craft businesses , tourism and, to a lesser extent, retail . Other sources of income can also be found in nearby Trier and across the border in Luxembourg with its banks and European institutions .

traffic

The motorway from Trier to Luxembourg ( A 64 ) is nearby. The distance to Luxembourg -Findel Airport is approx. 25 km. Langsur is connected to the railway network by the nearby towns of Wasserbillig (Luxembourg) and Igel on the Moselle-Syretal route Luxembourg - Trier . Trier city center is approx. 15 km away and can be reached by buses several times a day.

The Langsur districts of Metzdorf and Mesenich were railway stations on the Erdorf – Irrel – Igel branch line ( Nims-Sauertalbahn ). On its southern section, it was shut down and dismantled in 1968. The 827 m long Mesenich tunnel (now unused) is located near Mesenich . The station building in Mesenich fell victim to road construction, the reception building in Metzdorf has been integrated into a campsite for years. In 2008, the former railway line also became part of the Sauertal cycle path between Metzdorf and Wintersdorf .
