Keith Greene (born January 5, 1938 in Leytonstone ) is a former British racing driver .
Career
Keith Greene grew up around the British racing team Gilby Engineering , which belonged to his father. It was therefore no wonder that Greene found motorsport at the age of 18. In 1958, a Lotus Eleven was his second racing vehicle with which he competed in British sports car races.
In 1959 he started his monoposto career and finished second in the Formula 2 race in Aintree in his first race . Greene contested his races with Cooper cars until 1961 when Gilby built his own racing car for the 1.5-liter formula of the then Formula 1 . Greene competed in the 1961 British Grand Prix with the car . He had made his debut in this motorsport class a year before and, in contrast to the previous year, this time he managed a place in fifteenth place.
In 1962, Greene with the Gilby, which now had a BRM V8 engine in the rear, was a strong third at the Naples Grand Prix , beaten only by the two works Ferraris of Willy Mairesse and Lorenzo Bandini .
When Gilby retired from motorsport after continued unsuccessfulness in late 1962, Greene drove back to sports and touring car races. At the end of the 1960s he retired from active sport, but was still the manager of various racing teams in Great Britain until the mid-1990s.
