The list of rampages at educational institutions includes rampages that have become known at general schools, technical colleges, universities and other educational institutions. It does not claim to be complete.

  • June 20, 1913 in Walle , Bremen : An apparently mentally confused 30-year-old teacher carried out a rampage at the Sankt-Marien-Schule , in which five girls between the ages of seven and eight were killed and 18 other children and five adults were injured, some of them life-threatening were.
  • June 11, 1964 in Cologne-Volkhoven , North Rhine-Westphalia : 42-year-old Walter Seifert , who took early retirement, killed eight students and two teachers at a primary school with a self-made flame thrower and a lance. 20 children and two other teachers were injured. The perpetrator committed suicide while fleeing.
  • June 3, 1983 in Eppstein , Hesse : During the rampage in Eppstein-Vockenhausen , 34-year-old Karel Charva shot and killed three students, a teacher and a police officer at the Freiherr-vom-Stein comprehensive school and injured 15 other people before he did that himself Took life.
  • November 9, 1999 in Meißen , Saxony : A 15-year-old fatally injured a teacher with two knives.
  • March 16, 2000 in Brannenburg , Bavaria : A 16-year-old schoolboy kills the head of his boarding school and then makes a suicide attempt.

  • February 19, 2002 in Freising , Bavaria: After 22-year-old Adam Labus shot two people at his former workplace in Eching (Freising district) , he continued his rampage at the business school in Freising , where he killed the headmaster and one Teacher seriously injured.
  • April 26, 2002 in Erfurt , Thuringia : During the rampage in Erfurt , the 19-year-old former student Robert Steinhäuser shot 16 people and himself at the Gutenberg Gymnasium .
  • July 2, 2003 in Coburg , Bavaria: A 16-year-old pupil from a secondary school shot a teacher in the Coburg rampage . He then took his own life with the murder weapon.
  • November 20, 2006 in Emsdetten , North Rhine-Westphalia: During the rampage in Emsdetten , 18-year-old Sebastian B. injured 37 people at the Geschwister-Scholl-Schule and then killed himself. An explosive belt he had worn during the crime had to be taken from the police be defused.
  • March 11, 2009 in Winnenden , Baden-Württemberg : During the rampage in Winnenden , 17-year-old Tim Kretschmer shot and killed nine students, three teachers and three passers-by in the Albertville secondary school . After an exchange of fire with the police, the perpetrator took his own life.
  • May 11, 2009 in Sankt Augustin , North Rhine-Westphalia: The 16-year-old student Tanja O., who was armed with several knives, Molotov cocktails and a gas pistol, went to the Albert-Einstein-Gymnasium, where she seriously injured a classmate. The perpetrator later turned herself in to the police.
  • September 17, 2009 in Ansbach , Bavaria: During the rampage in Ansbach , a student at the Carolinum grammar school injured nine students and a teacher. On April 29, 2010, the perpetrator was found guilty of attempted murder in 47 cases, among other things, and was sentenced to nine years' youth imprisonment. The juvenile criminal chamber of the responsible regional court also ordered her to be placed in a psychiatric clinic .
  • February 18, 2010 in Ludwigshafen am Rhein , Rhineland-Palatinate : The 23-year-old Florian K. stabbed a teacher at the technical vocational school in the Georg Kerschensteiner vocational training center.
  • February 26, 2013 in Wernigerode , Saxony-Anhalt : A 15-year-old high school student injured two classmates with a blank gun during class . She had already announced a rampage in November 2011.

Austria

  • May 5, 1997 in Zöbern , Lower Austria : 15-year-old student Helmut Z. shot and killed a 48-year-old teacher at the secondary school and seriously injured another teacher. He was sentenced to eight years in prison.
  • May 9, 2018 in Mistelbach , Lower Austria: 18-year-old Mario S. shot a shotgun around him at the Mistelbach secondary school and injured a student. He was sentenced to six years in prison and sent to a mental health facility.

Finland

  • November 7, 2007 in Jokela , Finland : During the school massacre in Jokela , 18-year-old Pekka-Eric Auvinen shot and killed eight people in a school center and injured 12 others before he committed suicide.
  • September 23, 2008 in Kauhajoki , Finland: During the Kauhajoki rampage, 22-year-old Matti Juhani Saari shot and killed ten people at the local vocational school and then killed himself.

France

  • January 13, 2010 in Perpignan , France : One person was killed and three others injured in a rampage at the University of Perpignan .
  • March 16, 2017 in Grasse , France: Three people were shot at the Lycée Alexis de Tocqueville.

Netherlands

  • December 7, 1999 in Veghel , The Netherlands : 17-year-old Ali D. injured five people with a gun at De Leijgraaf High School.
  • January 13, 2004 in The Hague , the Netherlands: A 17-year-old student shot and killed the deputy headmaster of his school. In the evening he turned himself in to the police.

Sweden

  • October 25, 2001 in Sundsvall , Sweden : A 19-year-old man killed one person with a knife and injured another person at the Västermalms school.
  • October 22, 2015 in Trollhättan , Sweden: Three people were killed in the Trollhättan rampage at the Kronan School. The perpetrator was shot dead by a police officer in self-defense.

United Kingdom

  • August 19, 1987 in Hungerford , England : In the Hungerford rampage , 27-year-old Michael Robert Ryan killed 16 people before storming John O'Gaunt Secondary School, where he committed suicide after about 90 minutes of negotiation with police took.
  • Holywood , Northern Ireland June 17, 1994 : Garnett Bell, 46, injured six people with a flame thrower at Sullivan Upper School.
  • March 13, 1996 in Dunblane , Scotland : 43-year-old Thomas Watt Hamilton shot and killed 16 students and a teacher and injured 15 people at the primary school before killing himself.

  • May 6, 1925 in Vilnius in what was then Poland : At the Joachim Lelewel High School, five people were killed and ten others injured in a rampage. The perpetrator took his own life.
  • April 5, 1994 in Aarhus , Denmark : Flemming Nielsen, 35, shot dead two people at Aarhus University , injured two others and then committed suicide.
  • April 10, 2009 in Agios Ioannis Rendis , Greece : 19-year-old Dimitris Patmanidis, who was armed with firearms and a knife, injured three people at a vocational school before killing himself.
  • November 26, 2009 in Pécs , Hungary : A 23-year-old man shot dead and injured three others at the University of Pécs .
  • February 3, 2014 in Moscow , Russia : A tenth grader shot dead his geography teacher and a police officer.
  • October 27, 2014 in Viljandi , Estonia : A 15-year-old student shot and killed his German teacher during class.
  • October 17, 2018 in Kerch , Autonomous Republic of Crimea : An 18-year-old schoolboy detonated a bomb filled with metal parts, shot at his classmates and then killed himself. At least 20 dead and 40 injured were found.
  • June 11, 2020 in Vrútky , Slovakia : A 22-year-old former student armed with a knife broke into the local community school and stabbed the deputy headmaster. Other people were injured by knife wounds, including students. The perpetrator was shot by the police while fleeing.

1970s

  • December 30, 1974 in Olean , New York : At Olean High School, 17-year-old Anthony Barbaro shot dead three adults and injured nine others.
  • July 12, 1976 in Fullerton , California: 37-year-old Edward Charles Allaway killed seven people and injured two more at California State University . He was found not guilty and was admitted to a psychiatric hospital.
  • January 29, 1979 in San Diego , California: 16-year-old Brenda Ann Spencer killed two adults and injured nine other children at Cleveland Elementary School.

1980s

  • May 20, 1988 in Winnetka , Illinois : 30-year-old Laurie Dann shot and killed an elementary school student and injured six other children at Hubbard Woods Elementary School. She committed suicide later that day.
  • September 26, 1988 in Greenwood , South Carolina : James William Wilson, Jr., 19, shot dead two elementary school students at Oakland Elementary School. Seven other children and two adults were injured. The perpetrator was sentenced to death in the electric chair.
  • January 17, 1989 in Stockton , California: Patrick Edward Purdy, 24, shot dead five students and injured 30 others at Cleveland Elementary School before committing suicide.

1990s

  • Iowa City , Iowa November 1, 1991 : Gang Lu, a 28-year-old former student, shot dead four employees and a student at the University of Iowa and then committed suicide. Another person was injured.
  • May 1, 1992 in Olivehurst , California: 20-year-old Eric C. Houston killed four people and injured ten others at Lindhurst High School. After eight hours of resistance, he surrendered to the police. He was sentenced to death and has been awaiting execution in San Quentin State Prison since then .
  • December 14, 1992 in Great Barrington , Massachusetts : Wayne Lo shot dead a teacher, a student and injured four others at Simon's Rock College . He was sentenced to life imprisonment.
  • January 18, 1993 in Grayson , Kentucky : At East Carter High School, 17-year-old Gary Scott Pennington shot dead a teacher and a security guard before surrendering to the police.
  • November 15, 1995 in Lynnville , Tennessee : 17-year-old Jamie Rouse shot dead two people and injured another person at Richland High School. He was sentenced to life imprisonment.
  • February 2, 1996 in Moses Lake , Washington : Barry Loukaitis, 14, shot dead three people and injured another person at Frontier Middle School. He was sentenced to life imprisonment.
  • September 17, 1996 in University Park , Pennsylvania : 19-year-old Jillian Robbins shot dead a student of the same age at Pennsylvania State University and injured another student.
  • February 19, 1997 in Bethel , Alaska : 16-year-old student Evan Ramsey shot dead two people at Bethel Regional High School. Two other people were injured. The perpetrator was sentenced to 99 years in prison.
  • October 1, 1997 in Pearl , Mississippi : 16-year-old Luke Woodham first killed his mother and then drove to Pearl High School, where he shot two students and injured seven others. The perpetrator was sentenced to life imprisonment.
  • December 1, 1997 in West Paducah , Kentucky: 14-year-old Michael Carneal shot dead three students at Heath High School and injured five other people.
  • December 15, 1997 in Stamps , Arkansas : 14-year-old Joseph Colt Todd shot dead two classmates at Stamps High School.
  • March 24, 1998 in Jonesboro , Arkansas: Mitchell Johnson, age 13, and Andrew Golden, age 11, set off fire alarms during their rampage at Westside Middle School and then shot students and teachers leaving the building; four students and one teacher died and ten people were injured. Both perpetrators received several years' imprisonment.
  • April 24, 1998 in Edinboro , Pennsylvania: At Parker Middle School, 14-year-old Andrew Wurst shot dead a teacher and injured three other people. He was sentenced to a long prison term.
  • May 21, 1998 in Springfield , Oregon : 15-year-old Kipland Kinkel first killed his parents, then shot two students at Thurston High School and injured 22 others. He was sentenced to life imprisonment.
  • April 20, 1999 in Littleton , Colorado : 18-year-old Eric Harris and 17-year-old Dylan Klebold shot dead twelve students, a teacher and themselves during their rampage at Columbine High School . 24 others were injured. The act is also known as the "Littleton School Massacre".
  • May 20, 1999 in Conyers , Georgia : 15-year-old Thomas Solomon shot and fired at Heritage High School, injuring six classmates before surrendering. He later testified that the Columbine High School rampage inspired his act.
  • November 19, 1999 in Deming , New Mexico : A 13-year-old boy shot and killed a classmate at Deming Middle School. The boy could be prevented from killing himself.
  • Fort Gibson , Oklahoma December 6, 1999 : 13-year-old Seth Trickey injured four people with a gun at Fort Gibson Middle School.

2000s

  • February 29, 2000 in Mount Morris , Michigan: A six-year-old boy shot and killed a classmate in elementary school. The boy could not be prosecuted due to his age.
  • March 10, 2000 in Savannah , Georgia: 19-year-old Darrell Ingram shot dead two people at Beach High School. Another person was injured.
  • May 26, 2000 in Lake Worth , Florida : 13-year-old Nathaniel Brazill shot and killed a teacher at Lake Worth Middle School. He was sentenced to 28 years in prison.
  • February 22, 2001 in Portland , Oregon: A 14-year-old boy injured three people at a school with a knife.
  • March 5, 2001 in Santee , California: 15-year-old Charles Andrew Williams shot dead two people and injured thirteen others at Santana High School. The perpetrator was sentenced to life imprisonment.
  • March 22, 2001 in El Cajon , California: 18-year-old Jason Hoffman shot five people at Granite Hills High School.
  • January 16, 2002 in Grundy , Virginia : 43-year-old Peter Odighizuwa shot dead three people at the Appalachian School of Law. Three other people were injured. The perpetrator was sentenced to life imprisonment.
  • October 24, 2002 in Tucson , Arizona : 41-year-old Robert Flores shot dead three professors at the University of Arizona .
  • May 9, 2003 in Cleveland , Ohio : Biswanath Halder, 62, shot dead a 30-year-old student at Case Western Reserve University and injured two professors. The perpetrator was sentenced to life imprisonment.
  • March 21, 2005 in Red Lake , Minnesota : 16-year-old student Jeffrey Weise killed his grandparents and then drove to Red Lake High School, where he shot five classmates, a teacher and a security guard, and injured seven people before killing himself .
  • November 8, 2005 in Jacksboro , Tennessee: At Campbell County High School, Kenneth Bartley, who was 15 at the time of the crime, shot and killed a school worker and injured two other people.
  • August 30, 2006 in Hillsborough , North Carolina : 18-year-old Alvaro Rafael Castillo first killed his father and then drove to Orange High School, where he set off a cherry bomb and shot around. He injured two students before the police could overpower him.
  • September 29, 2006 in Cazenovia , Wisconsin : 15-year-old Eric Hainstock shot and killed the principal of Weston High School. He was overwhelmed by students and school staff and handed over to the police. He was later sentenced to life imprisonment.
  • October 2, 2006 in Bart Township, Pennsylvania: 32-year-old milk supplier Charles Carl Roberts killed five girls and injured five other people at West Nickel Mines School before killing himself.
  • Blacksburg , Virginia , April 16, 2007 : 23-year-old Cho Seung-Hui killed 32 people and injured 29 others before killing himself in the Virginia Tech rampage .
  • October 10, 2007 in Cleveland, Ohio: At SuccessTech Academy, 14-year-old Asa Coon gunshot wounds five people before killing himself.
  • February 14, 2008 in DeKalb , Illinois: Steven Phillip Kazmierczak, 27, killed five people and injured 18 others at Northern Illinois University before he committed suicide.

2010s

  • February 12, 2010 in Huntsville , Alabama : At the University of Alabama in Huntsville , the 44-year-old biology lecturer Amy Bishop shot three of her colleagues and injured three other people.
  • February 23, 2010 in Littleton, Colorado: Bruco Eastwood, 32 at the time of the crime, injured two people with a gun at Deer Creek Middle School. He was found incompetent and admitted to a psychiatric hospital.
  • February 27, 2012 in Chardon , Ohio: 17-year-old Thomas "TJ" Lane killed three students and injured three other people in a rampage at Chardon High School. Lane was sentenced to life in prison.
  • December 15, 2012 in Newtown , Connecticut : After 20-year-old Adam Lanza shot his mother in her home, he went on a rampage at Sandy Hook Elementary School , killing 12 girls and eight boys, ages five to ten and six school employees, including the principal, shot dead. Then Lanza took his own life.
  • April 2, 2012 in Oakland , California: At Oikos University , a former student shot and killed seven people. Three other people were injured. The perpetrator was found not to be guilty of guilt and was sent to a psychiatric facility.
  • January 10, 2013 in Taft , California: A 16-year-old man shot dead two people at Union High School, then persuaded him to give up and was later arrested.
  • April 10, 2013 in Cypress , Texas: A 20-year-old stabbed 14 classmates at Lone Star College and seriously injured some of them. The perpetrator was sentenced to 48 years in prison.
  • June 7, 2013 in Santa Monica , California: 23-year-old John Zawahiri first killed his father and brother. He then drove to Santa Monica College , where he killed six people with an assault rifle . He was shot dead by a police officer.
  • August 20, 2013 in Decatur , Georgia: 20-year-old Michael Brandon Hill , heavily armed, stormed an elementary school with around 870 children in attendance. He took the school secretary Antoinette Tuff hostage and engaged in an exchange of fire with the police. After Tuff had persuaded the perpetrator to give up, he was arrested. Nobody was injured.
  • May 23, 2014 in Isla Vista , California: In the Isla Vista rampage , 22-year-old Elliot Rodger killed six students at the University of California, Santa Barbara , injured thirteen other people, and subsequently committed suicide.
  • October 24, 2014 in Marysville , Washington: 14-year-old Jaylen Fryberg shot dead four classmates.
  • October 1, 2015 in Roseburg , Oregon: 26-year-old Christopher Harper-Mercer shot and killed nine people and injured seven others in the rampage at Umpqua Community College . He then committed suicide.
  • January 20, 2017 in West Liberty , Ohio: At West Liberty-Salem High School, two students were shot by a 17-year-old.
  • April 10, 2017 in San Bernardino , California: A teacher and child were shot dead and two other children injured at North Park Elementary School. The shooter then shot himself.
  • Rockford , Washington , September 13, 2017 : A schoolboy was shot dead and three others injured in a rampage at Freeman High School.
  • September 20, 2017 in Mattoon , Illinois: A student was shot at Mattoon High School.
  • November 14, 2017 at Rancho Tehama Reserve in Tehama County , California: Five people were shot dead and at least 12 others injured in a rampage at Rancho Tehama Elementary School before a police officer shot the shooter.
  • December 7, 2017 in Aztec , New Mexico: In an attack at Aztec High School , two students of Hispanic American origin were killed by a 21-year-old right-wing extremist who subsequently shot himself.
  • December 13, 2017 in Monaca , Pennsylvania: On the campus of Penn State Beaver, a subsidiary of Pennsylvania State University, a man shot his ex-wife and then himself.
  • January 22, 2018 in Italy , Texas: A girl was shot at Italy High School.
  • January 23, 2018 in Benton , Kentucky: Two students were shot dead and 18 others injured in a rampage at Marshall County High School.
  • February 14, 2018 in Parkland , Florida: 14 students and three adults were shot dead in a rampage at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. 14 other people were injured. The act became known as the " Parkland School Massacre ".
  • February 23, 2018 in Hammond , Louisiana: Two people were shot dead on the Southeastern Louisiana University campus .
  • Santa Fe , Texas May 18, 2018 : Ten people, most of them high school students, were shot dead in the Santa Fe High School rampage .
  • April 30, 2019 in Charlotte , North Carolina: Two people were shot dead and four others injured on the University of North Carolina campus . The alleged perpetrator, a 22-year-old former student, was arrested.
  • May 7, 2019 in Denver , Colorado: Two students killed an 18-year-old and wounded eight other classmates at STEM School Highlands Ranch. A 15-year-old girl and an adult boy were arrested.
  • November 14, 2019 in Santa Clarita , California: A 16-year-old student and a 14-year-old student died in a school shoot at Saugus High School. Several people were injured, including the 16-year-old suspect whom police took into custody.

Canada

  • Edmonton , Alberta March 16, 1959 : 19-year-old Stanley Williamson shot and killed one person and injured five others at Ross Sheppard High School.
  • May 28, 1975 in Brampton , Ontario : At the Brampton Centennial Secondary School, 16-year-old Michael Slobodian shot dead three people and injured 13 others before committing suicide.
  • October 27, 1975 in Ottawa , Ontario: After 18-year-old student Robert Poulin raped and stabbed a 17-year-old girl, he drove to St. Pius X High School, where he shot a 17-year-old classmate and injured six other people . The perpetrator then committed suicide.
  • December 6, 1989 in Montreal , Québec : The 25-year-old Marc Lépine shot dead 14 women and injured 13 other people in the rampage at the Montréal Polytechnic before he committed suicide.
  • August 24, 1992 in Montreal, Québec: Valery Fabrikant, then professor of mechanical engineering at Concordia University , shot four of his colleagues and injured another person. He was sentenced to life imprisonment.
  • October 20, 1994 in Toronto , Ontario: Ta Phung Cuong, 27, injured two people with a gun at Brockton High School.
  • April 28, 1999 in Taber , Alberta: Todd C. Smith, aged 14, shot and killed at WR Myers High School, killing one person and injuring another. The incident is believed to be the first copycat act of the Columbine High School rampage that occurred just days earlier.
  • Ottawa, Ontario, April 20, 2000: A 15-year-old boy knife injured five people at Cairine Wilson High School.
  • September 13, 2006 in Montreal, Quebec: Kimveer Gill, 25, shot dead a student at Dawson College , wounded 19 other people, and then committed suicide.

Middle and South America

  • April 7, 2011 in Rio de Janeiro , Brazil : A 23-year-old former student at the Escola Municipal Tasso da Silveira shot and killed twelve children between the ages of 12 and 14 in the Realengo rampage . After an exchange of fire with a police officer, the gunman killed himself.
  • January 18, 2017 in Monterrey , Mexico : A 15-year-old student shot dead a teacher and himself at a private school. Several students were injured.
  • March 13, 2019 in Suzano , São Paulo , Brazil: Two former students (17 and 25 years old) killed seven people at the Escola Estadual Professor Raul Brasil . At least 16 other people were injured. Then one of the perpetrators killed his accomplice and then committed suicide. Before the attack on the school, they shot the uncle of one of the perpetrators.
  • January 10, 2020 in Torreón , Mexico: An 11-year-old sixth grade student shot dead a teacher and himself at a private elementary school. Five students and a teacher were injured.

Asia

  • March 30, 1997 in Sanaa , Yemen : The 48-year-old Mohammad Ahman al-Naziri shot dead six students and two teachers at two local schools. He was sentenced to death and executed that same year.
  • June 8, 2001 in Ikeda , Japan : 37-year-old Mamoru Takuma stabbed eight children and injured 15 other people at the teacher training college. He was executed in 2004. The act came to be known as the " Osaka School Massacre ".
  • March 6, 2008 in Kiryat Moshe, Israel : The 26-year-old Alaa Abu Dhein shot and killed eight people at a religious school and injured ten others before killing himself.
  • March 23, 2010 in Nanping , Fujian Province , People's Republic of China : A mentally disturbed, 41-year-old man stabbed eight children in a primary school. Five other students were injured.
  • April 27, 2018 in Mizhi , Shaanxi Province , People's Republic of China: Seven students were killed and 12 others were injured in a knife attack on a middle school. The alleged perpetrator was arrested.

Australia

  • October 21, 2002 in Melbourne , Victoria : Exchange student Huan Yun Xiang, who was 36 at the time of the crime, shot dead two students at Monash University and injured five other people. The perpetrator was sent to a psychiatric facility.
