Marshall County is a county in the state of Kansas in the United States . The county seat is Marysville .

geography

The county is located in northeast Kansas, borders Nebraska to the north and has an area of ​​2,342 square kilometers, of which five square kilometers are water. In Kansas, it is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Nemaha County , Pottawatomie County , Riley County, and Washington County .

history

Marshall County was formed on August 25, 1855 and is one of the first 33 counties to be formed by the first Territorial Administration. It was named after Frank J. Marshall , a US general who built a ferry to cross the Big Blue River . On May 30, 1879, the Irving tornado hit the county. It reached strength F4 on the Fujita scale , which means a wind speed of 333-419 km / h, and left a path of devastation around 700 m wide and 160 km long. 18 people died and 60 were injured.
