The Beast of New Haven was an American ice hockey franchise of the American Hockey League based in New Haven , Connecticut . The team's venue was the New Haven Coliseum .

history

The Carolina Monarchs were relocated to New Haven , Connecticut , in 1997 , where they played as the Carolina Hurricanes and Florida Panthers farm team under the name Beast of New Haven in the American Hockey League. In its first season, New Haven immediately reached the playoffs, in which they failed in the first round with a sweep in the best-of-five series at the Hartford Wolf Pack . The following year, New Haven missed the playoffs and finished only fifth in the New England division, whereupon the franchise was dissolved in 1999.
