Christian County is a county in the state of Kentucky in the United States . The county seat is Hopkinsville , which was named after General Samuel Hopkins .

The county is located in southwest Kentucky, borders the state of Tennessee to the south and has an area of 1,875 square kilometers, of which seven square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise in Kentucky by the following counties: Hopkins County , Muhlenberg County , Todd County , Trigg County, and Caldwell Counties .
history
Christian County was formed on December 13, 1796 from parts of Logan County. It was named after Colonel William Christian , who was killed during a battle with Indians.

According to the 2000 census , Christian County's population was 72,265. Of these, 6,083 people lived in collective accommodation, the other residents lived in 24,857 households and 18,344 families. The population density was 39 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 69.92 percent white, 23.73 percent African American, 0.52 percent Native American, 0.91 percent Asian, 0.32 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 2.23 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 2.37 percent were descended from two or more races. 4.83 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 24,857 households, 41.1 percent had children and young people under the age of 18 living with them. 57.0 percent were married couples living together, 13.6 percent were single mothers, 26.2 percent were non-families, 22.5 percent were single households and 8.5 percent had people aged 65 years or over. The average household size was 2.66 and the average family size was 3.12.
For the entire county, the population was composed of 28.3 percent of residents under the age of 18, 15.8 percent between 18 and 24 years of age, 30.1 percent between 25 and 44 years of age, and 16.0 percent between 45 and 64 years of age 9.8 percent were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 28 years. For every 100 females there were 106.6 males. For every 100 women 18 years of age or older there were 107.6 men statistically.
The median income for a household in the 31,177 US dollars , and the median income for a family was 35,240 USD. Males had a median income of $ 25,063 versus $ 20,748 for females. The per capita income was $ 14,611. 12.1 percent of families and 15.0 percent of the population were below the poverty line. Of these, 19.3 percent were children or adolescents under 18 years of age and 13.5 percent were people over 65 years of age.
