The 1996/97 Copa del Rey was the 93rd edition of the Spanish Football Cup.

The competition started on September 4, 1996 and ended with the final on June 28, 1997 in the Estadio Santiago Bernabéu ( Madrid ). The defending champion of the cup competition was Atlético Madrid . FC Barcelona won the title with a 3-2 win after extra time against Betis Sevilla in the final . Since the Catalans qualified for the UEFA Champions League in the 1996/97 season , Betis Sevilla took part in the 1997/98 European Cup Winners' Cup.
