The 7th US Critics' Choice Television Awards , presented annually by the Broadcast Television Journalists Association (BTJA), took place on December 11, 2016 in the Barker Hangar at Santa Monica Municipal Airport in Santa Monica , California . Both the sixth and seventh awards took place in 2016 as they were dragged forward by a month. The award ceremony was hosted for the second time by comedian and actor TJ Miller and was broadcast live on US cable station A&E .

The nominations were announced on November 14, 2016. Programs that were broadcast in prime time in the period from January 1, 2016 to December 31, 2016 were taken into account . The Most Promising New Series category is expected to be awarded separately in early September 2017.

The HBO television film The Long Road to the Presidency of Lyndon B. Johnson , the fourth season of the political series House of Cards , the miniseries Roots - a remake of the 1977 series of the same name - and the fifth season of the drama series Veep - The Vice President were each nominated four times .

The television multi-part series American Crime has three nominations in the television film and mini-series category for its second season . The drama series Better Call Saul , The Crown , Mr. Robot and Ray Donovan , the ABC comedy series Black-ish and Modern Family , the television film Killing Reagan on the National Geographic Channel about the assassination attempt on US President Ronald Reagan were also considered three times , the Sketch -Comedy broadcast Saturday Night Live and the debut season of the science fiction - Western series Westworld .
