Croix is a northern French municipality with 21,041 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in Nord in the region of Hauts-de-France . The city immediately merged with Roubaix . The inhabitants of Croix are called Croisiens in French .
location
Croix is about eight kilometers to the northeast of Lille and two kilometers to the southwest of Roubaix '. Hem (south-east), Roubaix (north-east), Villeneuve-d'Ascq (south) and Wasquehal (south-west) border the municipality .
In the north-west, Croix is bounded in a straight line by the Canal de Roubaix . The municipality of Mouvaux is on the opposite side .
The municipality is almost divided into two parts in the east, which goes back to the strong growth of the city of Roubaix in the 19th century. The Parc Barbieux in particular protrudes far into the municipality. Some related areas were attached to Roubaix in 1914.
The north-west of the community is heavily built up and surrounds its historical core, while the south-east is dominated by residential areas with a higher standard of living.
history
In the Middle Ages, Croix was the seat of the rulers of Croix and de la Fontaine. The city was the first time in a 1066 charter of the Count of Flanders Baldwin V mentioned. In 1617 Croix was made a county and gave its name to one of the oldest noble families in France.

Croix is connected to the A22 , which runs in a north-south direction, via Route nationale 450 ( avenue Jean Jaures and avenue de Flandre ) . From it more freeways or highways leading into the center of Lille, to A 1 (south), A27 (east), A 25 (west) or north to Belgium .
Croix also has a train station on the Tourcoing-Roubaix-Lille railway connection, which is important in the region, and is connected to the Metro network of line 2 from Lille via the Croix center and Croix mairie stations , which is managed by the local transport company Transpole . In addition, the R tram between Lille and Roubaix runs past the two stations Croix-La Chapelle and Croix-Clinique du Parc .
The Canal de Roubaix was embellished as part of a European program and has been navigable again since 2009. In addition, the area of Croix borders in the south with the straightened marque that ends in Croix. Its natural inflow reaches Croix and the canalised river course from the southeast. The Marque and the Canal de Roubaix are part of the Deûle - Schelde connection.
