L'Isle-Jourdain ( Gascon L'Isla de Baish ) is a French municipality with 8851 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Gers in the region Occitania and in Arrondissement Also , it is the capital of the canton of L'Isle-Jourdain . The inhabitants are called Lislois (es) .
The city lies on the banks of the Sava River .
history
The place name is reminiscent of an island in the middle of a swamp. A gentleman from Isle had his son baptized in the Jordan as a participant in the crusade and named him after the river; the name was adopted by the community.
