The 1981 Festival Poster - front side

The first festival under the title “Abifestival” took place from May 27th to 31st, 1981 on the youth campground in Lünne. The organizers at the time were a small group of high school graduates from Lingen who wanted to celebrate their school days, which were soon to end. The Abifestival has changed a lot since 1981 and finally found its way from a festival organized for high school graduates to a music festival. The most recent musical highlights included the musicians Casper , Kraftklub , KIZ , Cro , AnnenMayKantereit , Incubus , Sportfreunde Stiller , Kilians , Dendemann , Bratze , Sugarplum Fairy and Virginia Jetzt!

At the end of the 80s, the meadow was found near the old Lingen nuclear power plant , the festival site that still exists today. In the years before, the Abifestival was held in various places around Lingen. In the nineties, the participation of the high school graduates of the Gymnasium Leoninum in the preparations for the festival ended. However, the principle “ free and outdoors ” has been retained since the beginning in 1981 . As a reliable legal basis for the 1997 Abifestival, the Abifestival e. V. founded; This was not dissolved as planned after the festival, but continued to organize the Abifestival as the organizer. Since, among other things, the aim was to become non-profit instead of commercializing the Abifestival and the Abifestival e. V. did not offer a sufficient basis for this, it was dissolved at the end of 2004. On December 27, 2004, two non-profit associations that have been active in the area of the Abifestival were newly founded. The Abifestival since 1981 e. V. acts as the organizer, consisting of members of the Abiturentia and other young adults (and also alumni); in the Förderverein Abifestival e. V. support former high school graduates, friends and sponsors of the Abifestival and the Abifestival since 1981 e. V. ideally and materially.

In May 2018, the organizers of the festival announced on Facebook that the planned festival on June 15 and 16, 2018 would not take place and would take a one-year break. The reason they cited was the insufficient number of volunteers. The nine bands released to date included Die Höchste Eisenbahn , Fatoni , Zugezogen Masculin and Fjørt .

In 2019, the festival was held for the first time on August 9th and 10th under the name Lautfeuer.
