The medical profession either stands next to the literary existence as with Justinus Kerner , Alfred Döblin and Gottfried Benn , was given up when he took up the writing profession or the success as an author ( Friedrich Schiller , Heinar Kipphardt ) or never practiced ( Paul Fleming , William Somerset Maugham , Stanisław Lem ).
