Roth is a municipality in the Altenkirchen (Westerwald) district in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the community of Hamm (Sieg) .
geography
Roth is located about three kilometers southwest of Wissen at the meeting point of Bundesstraße 256 and Bundesstraße 62 .
Districts are Roth, Oettershagen, Hohensayn, Nisterbrück, Hämmerholz, Thal, Nisterau and Schlade.
history
The place Roth was first mentioned in 1487 in the Miracle Book of Marienthal .
In the Middle Ages Roth was part of the County of Sayn . After the introduction of the Reformation in County Sayn, the inhabitants became Lutheran and later Reformed. After the state division of the County of Sayn in the 17th century, Roth belonged to the County of Sayn-Hachenburg .
Roth formed a separate administrative district called "Sende" within the parish of Hamm , which also included the places Hämmerholz, Hohensayn, Oettershagen and Thal. The county of Sayn-Hachenburg fell by inheritance to the Principality of Nassau-Weilburg in 1799 , which became part of the Duchy of Nassau in 1806 .
Due to the agreements made at the Congress of Vienna (1815), the region was ceded to the Kingdom of Prussia . Under the Prussian administration, Roth was assigned to the Hamm mayor's office in the newly established Altenkirchen district , which from 1822 on belonged to the Rhine Province .
